The week of Aug 25-31 Black breastfeeding week (BBW15)

This week will be full of events Nation Wide!  Here at Mama's Confidence Blog & Web show we are so excited to be partnering with a  local Wic agencies, community leaders and BBW Team.

Black breastfeeding week (BBW15) is Aug 25-31.
The week falls within the celebration of National Breastfeeding Month, but holds special significance specifically for Black moms, who need critical help reducing the gaping, 40-year racial disparity in breastfeeding rates. Indeed, BBW notes that the most recent CDC data shows that 75% of white women have breastfed versus 58.9% of Black women. “The fact that racial disparity in initiation and an even bigger one for duration has lingered for so long is reason enough to take seven days to focus on the issue,” BBW writes on its website.

In the meantime, Mom in ME & Jaw Research Inst. is teaming with FreeToBreastfeed.com, The Black Mother’s Breastfeeding Association and MochaManual.com to spread the word about upcoming Black Breastfeeding Week events, including:

Mama Glow Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week. Got Milk? All female mammals lactate to sustain the life of their young. There is no mammal that depends on the milk of another species of mammal for their survival. This is one of the many attributes that make mammals unique. Mother Nature in her infinite genius created a cocktail of hormones, neuro-chemicals, immune factor, all bound up in your milk supply. A mother’s milk is liquid gold. We are here and have evolved as a species because our ancestors breastfed. To live in a time where women have social permission to expose their bodies freely for entertainment and advertising but be socially reprimanded for “exposing” their breasts even minimally to feed their young is insane. Babies and mothers do not need to adjust or be considerate of people’s comfort level with breastfeeding- society needs to shift. #breastfeeding #breastcancerawareness #worldbreastfeedingweek #gotmilk #mamaglow #milk #babyglow #motherhood #normalizebreastfeeding (at World Breastfeeding Week )http://mamaglow.tumblr.com/page/2
